This four-week plan is a template, not a promise. It assumes you have encountered most course material and can access the syllabus, representative questions, and feedback. If those assumptions are wrong, adjust the plan with your teacher rather than compressing every step. Before week one: make an assessment map For each subject, record: the topics that can be assessed; the form of the assessment: recall, calculation, essay, analysis, performance, or a mixture; the date and available study sessions; your current evidence: a closed-book attempt, recent test, or marked assignment. Label topics secure, partial, or missing only after an attempt. Confidence without a test is not enough data. Week 1: diagnose and rebuild foundations Goal: identify the highest-value gaps and restore prerequisites. Complete a short diagnostic set for every major unit. Create an error log with cause categories. Select missing prerequisites that block several later topics. Begin short retrieval sessions for core facts, formulas, and processes. Do not spend the entire week making attractive notes. Every study block should end with an observable attempt: a solution, explanation, diagram, plan, or paragraph. Week 2: space retrieval and add application Goal: revisit repaired material while using it in representative questions. A sample 50-minute block: 10 minutes: retrieve material from a previous day; 20 minutes: learn or repair one defined concept; 15 minutes: answer an application question; 5 minutes: check, log the error, and schedule the revisit. Week 3: mix topics and practise decisions Goal: recognize which knowledge or method a question requires. Build mixed sets from related units. For essays, mix prompts and practise producing a claim, evidence plan, and counterargument. For quantitative subjects, mix problem types instead of completing a page of identical examples with the method named at the top. Complete at least one timed section. Review it by error type rather than only total score. Week 4: simulate, repair, and reduce scope Goal: test the complete performance and repair the most important remaining weaknesses. Complete a realistic timed paper or performance. Mark it with the official criteria when available. Choose the three error patterns with the greatest cost. Create one repair task for each pattern. Retest those patterns after a delay. Reduce new material near the exam unless it is a critical prerequisite. Use brief retrieval, error-log review, and representative questions rather than an unplanned final-night marathon. A weekly timetable rule Allocate sessions by need, assessment weight, and time remaining—not equally by subject. Keep one buffer session each week for work that takes longer or for an unavoidable disruption. A schedule with no buffer is a wish, not a plan. Daily closing questions What can I now do without the source? Which error repeated? What should I revisit, and when? What is the first action in the next session? Adaptations If you have two weeks, combine weeks 1–2 and weeks 3–4 while reducing scope. If you have eight weeks, repeat the retrieval and application phase with wider spacing. If an assessment is a project or performance, replace practice papers with drafts, rehearsals, critique, and revision against the rubric. Set priorities before filling the calendar For every assessment area, combine four pieces of information: assessment weight, time remaining, current performance evidence, and prerequisite importance. A weak topic worth many marks and required by later topics deserves more sessions than a secure isolated topic. Do not distribute time equally merely because equal blocks look organized. Use a closed-book attempt, marked assignment, or representative question as current evidence. Confidence is useful but insufficient. Record a specific gap such as “cannot choose between two integration methods” or “essay evidence is incomplete,” then assign a task that addresses that gap. Limit the first weekly plan to outputs you can count or review: diagnostic sets completed, diagrams retrieved, mixed problems checked, essay plans produced, or rehearsals evaluated. Hours are a capacity constraint, not the learning result. A worked example with two subjects Suppose a student has mathematics and history exams in four weeks. Mathematics diagnostics reveal weak algebra that affects several later units. History knowledge is reasonable, but timed essays lack evidence and counterarguments. The first week assigns three mathematics sessions to algebra repair and two history sessions to evidence retrieval and paragraph planning. In week two, mathematics moves from supported examples to unseen problems while repaired algebra is retrieved briefly on separate days. History mixes themes and adds one timed paragraph. In week three, both subjects use mixed sets: mathematics requires method selection; history requires choosing relevant evidence for unfamiliar prompts. In week four, the student completes representative timed work and uses the error log to target the final sessions. The schedule does not give both subjects identical daily time. It responds to assessment evidence. If the history simulation reveals a larger problem than expected, the next week changes. A useful revision plan is a sequence of decisions, not a decorative promise made four weeks earlier. Adapt the four weeks to the assessment type Recall-heavy examinations Build short retrieval sets from the syllabus, space them across the weeks, and include questions that require comparison or explanation rather than isolated terms only. Keep unsuccessful material on a shorter revisit interval and check every answer. Quantitative and procedural examinations Repair prerequisites in week one, fade support in week two, mix related problem types in week three, and complete timed sets in week four. Track whether errors come from knowledge, method selection, execution, or interpretation. Essay examinations Retrieve claims and evidence, practise planning unfamiliar prompts, write timed sections, and review against the marking criteria. A complete essay is useful, but several focused plans and paragraphs may provide more feedback early in the schedule. Projects and performances Replace mock papers with milestone drafts, rehearsals, critique, and revision. Define what feedback is needed and when there is enough time to act on it. Keep a final buffer for technical problems and do not schedule the first complete performance on the deadline. Use weekly decision rules At the end of each week, keep, increase, reduce, or replace a task based on evidence: Keep a task when it is producing improvement and still represents the assessment. Increase support when repeated attempts fail because a prerequisite or explanation is missing. Reduce frequency when retrieval is consistently accurate after a delay. Replace a task when it measures recognition but the assessment demands production or application. Change one variable at a time when possible. If you change the topic, technique, duration, location, and feedback source together, it becomes difficult to learn why performance changed. Recover from a missed week or disrupted schedule Do not compress every missed session into the remaining calendar. Re-run a short diagnostic, protect high-weight gaps and prerequisite repairs, and remove lower-value tasks. Combine phases carefully: a shortened plan can diagnose and repair in the same session, then use mixed practice and simulation later. Preserve feedback. When time is limited, students often complete more questions but stop checking them. An unchecked set can repeat the same mistake. Reduce the number of questions before removing review and correction. If illness, disability, care responsibilities, or another major disruption affects preparation, contact the relevant institution about support or accommodations. A timetable cannot replace formal help when circumstances affect access to the assessment. The final 72 hours Use the final days to retrieve high-priority knowledge, review repeated errors, and complete brief representative tasks. Avoid rebuilding the entire note system or adding many new low-priority topics. Prepare required materials and confirm the assessment instructions. The day before, choose a stopping point that supports appropriate rest and practical preparation. This guide does not prescribe a medical sleep schedule; follow advice suitable for your age, health, and circumstances. The planning principle is to avoid trading all next-day functioning for one more unstructured review block. Frequently asked questions about revision planning Must I revise every subject every day? No. Space important material across the week, but allocate sessions according to need, assessment weight, and available time. Some days can focus deeply on one subject while still including a short retrieval revisit from another. How detailed should the timetable be? Detailed enough to define the topic, output, and approximate time—without requiring constant maintenance. “Genetics: answer and check two inheritance problems” is more useful than “biology,” but planning every five minutes usually adds unnecessary friction. What if my scores fall when I begin mixed practice? Mixed sets remove the label that tells you which method to use, so they can expose selection weaknesses. Review the causes, return briefly to clear individual examples if necessary, then mix a smaller related set. A temporary lower score can reveal a task that better represents the exam. When is the plan finished? The plan is finished when the assessment occurs, but the learning record can continue. Keep the error categories and successful tasks for future courses. After the exam, avoid making confident conclusions from feelings alone; use returned feedback when available. Keep the final plan readable enough that a teacher, parent, tutor, or study partner can understand what you intend to produce. Clear outputs make it easier for another person to offer relevant feedback, notice an unrealistic workload, or help you locate a missing resource before the remaining time disappears.
